What is the QuoteHub cover check?
The cover check is a short online form that collects what a licensed New Zealand financial adviser needs before they can compare insurance for you: your name, age, whether you smoke, whether you already hold cover and with whom, what you are trying to protect, roughly how much cover you want, and any history of heart attack, cancer or stroke. It takes about 60 seconds and costs nothing.
What happens after you submit it?
A licensed adviser at Smiths Insurance & KiwiSaver reviews your answers and calls you, normally within one business day. That first conversation runs roughly 10 to 30 minutes and is used to work out whether a full needs analysis is worth doing. If you go ahead and apply, the journey from application to being on risk usually takes about two to six weeks in New Zealand, depending on underwriting.
We text a verification code to the number you give us. That is there to confirm the number is yours before an adviser rings it, not to sign you up to anything. How it works walks through every stage.
What does the check cost?
Nothing, at any stage. Insurance advisers in New Zealand are paid by the insurer through commission when a policy is placed: an upfront payment plus a smaller trail commission for as long as the policy stays in force. That commission is already inside the insurer's standard premium, so going through an adviser does not raise the price you pay. How we're paid sets out the conflict this creates and how it is managed.
Which insurers are compared?
Advice is given across the insurer panel named in full on the QuoteHub disclosure page. That is a panel, not the whole New Zealand market: an insurer outside it is not assessed, and its absence is not a judgement about its products. Recommendations are based on your needs analysis and product suitability, not on which insurer pays the most commission.

The honest limits
QuoteHub is not an insurer. It does not set premiums, underwrite applications or decide claims, and nothing shown anywhere on this site is a quote, the price you are offered is set by the insurer after it has underwritten your age, health, occupation and cover choices. This page is general information; personalised financial advice begins once an adviser has completed a needs analysis with you.
