Ongoing protection

This isn't a one-and-done transaction. Your life changes. Your cover should keep up.

What is ongoing protection?

Ongoing protection means the licensed New Zealand adviser who arranged your cover stays responsible for it afterwards: checking in as your life changes, handling policy administration with the insurer, keeping your will current, and acting for you at claim time. It is the part of insurance that happens in the years between buying a policy and needing it.

Most people review their insurance once every few years. Maybe never. But life doesn't stand still. You get a pay rise. A new baby. A bigger mortgage. Each of those changes affects whether your cover still fits, and a policy nobody revisits drifts away from the household it was bought to protect.

Your adviser checks in regularly, handles policy admin, and updates your will when needed. You don't need to remember to call. They'll reach out when it matters.

When should you review your cover?

Review your cover whenever the financial shape of your household changes, and at least once a year otherwise. In New Zealand the four changes that most often leave cover out of step are a new baby or dependant, a change of job or income, a new mortgage or refinance, and a policy renewal that moves the premium. Any one of them is reason enough to have the policy read again.

Any of these should trigger a review. With QuoteHub, they do automatically.

What does your adviser do between reviews?

Between reviews your adviser carries the administrative load that policyholders usually carry alone: chasing the insurer on paperwork, processing changes to sums insured or beneficiaries, updating the will drafted when your cover started, and answering questions about what a policy actually pays. When something goes wrong, they are the person who lodges and follows the claim.

What does ongoing service cost?

Nothing extra. QuoteHub charges New Zealand clients no fee for reviews, policy admin or claim support. Advisers here are paid by the insurer through commission, part of it upfront when a policy is placed and a smaller trail commission each year the policy stays in force. That trail is what funds the ongoing service, and it is already inside the premium the insurer sets.

Ongoing service applies to cover arranged through QuoteHub. If your policy sits with another adviser, we can still review it, but we do not administer it unless you choose to move it. How we're paid sets out the conflict this creates and how it is managed.

The honest limits

An adviser cannot decide a claim, stop an insurer repricing a stepped premium, or rewrite policy wording. Those sit with the insurer. What an adviser can do is make sure the right claim is made under the right benefit, argue your case with the insurer, and tell you early when a policy has stopped being worth what you pay for it.

Advice is given across the insurer panel named on our disclosure page, not across every insurer in New Zealand, and nothing on this site is a quote. If our service falls short you can complain to us first and then, free of charge, to the Financial Dispute Resolution Service.
