Published insurance numbers in New Zealand

These are New Zealand insurance numbers that are actually published somewhere: levies set by regulation, an official price index, financial strength grades insurers must disclose, limits stated in policy wordings, and hospital waiting lists released by Health New Zealand. Each one names its source and carries the date it was read.

A premium is not on this list, and deliberately so. Insurance pricing in New Zealand is personalised to your age, your health and an underwriting decision that has not happened yet, so there is no published rate to look up. Anyone showing you one is showing you an example.

Questions about published insurance numbers

Why is there no table of life insurance premiums?

Because one does not exist. A life insurance premium in New Zealand depends on your age, your smoking status, your health, your occupation and the underwriting decision that follows, so two people the same age routinely pay different amounts for identical cover. A published rate table would be an illustration rather than a price, and we do not publish illustrations as prices.

How current are these figures?

Each page carries the date its figures were last checked and the cadence the underlying source is reissued on. The whole section was last checked on 9 Sep 2026. Where a source publishes quarterly, the page is re-read quarterly rather than left to age quietly.

Can I use these numbers to compare insurers?

For financial strength and for non-Pharmac limits, yes, with the caveats each page sets out: a grade belongs to the licensed entity rather than the brand, and a drug limit means different things depending on whether it sits inside or on top of a wider maximum. For everything else on this list, the numbers describe the market rather than any one insurer.
