What does this under-insurance quiz do?
The quiz asks five questions about your dependants, your mortgage or other debt, any cover your employer provides, when you last reviewed your insurance, and how well you understand what ACC covers. Each answer carries a score, the five scores add to a total out of 19, and that total places you in a low, medium or high risk band. It takes about a minute and needs no sign-up.
How should you read the result?
Read the result as a prompt, not a diagnosis. A total of 5 or below returns low risk, 6 to 11 returns medium risk, and 12 or more returns high risk. The bands reflect only the five answers you gave, so they say nothing about your health, your occupation, the wording of any policy you already hold, or what an insurer would actually charge you.
- Low risk, your position looks reasonable, though cover still drifts as your life changes.
- Medium risk, there are likely gaps worth having a licensed adviser look at.
- High risk, your answers suggest meaningful exposure if illness, injury or death stopped your income.
Why the ACC question matters in New Zealand
ACC covers injury from accidents in New Zealand. It does not cover illness, so cancer, heart disease, stroke and degenerative conditions fall outside it entirely. That single boundary is the most common reason Kiwis believe they are covered when they are not, which is why one of the five questions asks about it directly. Our ACC versus insurance page sets out where the line sits.
What happens if you ask for a review?
If you leave your details, a licensed New Zealand financial adviser reads your answers and calls you, usually within one business day. The first conversation runs about 10 to 30 minutes and is used to work out whether a full needs analysis would help. It is free, nothing is submitted to an insurer without your agreement, and you can stop at any point.
QuoteHub operates under Smiths Insurance & KiwiSaver (FSP 712931), a Class 2 Financial Advice Provider in Sydenham, Christchurch. Advice is given across the insurers named on our disclosure page, not every insurer in New Zealand, and advisers are paid commission by the insurer rather than a fee by you, see how we're paid. This quiz is general information, not personalised financial advice, and no figure on this site is a quote.
