No New Zealand vet clinic publishes a fixed price for a chemotherapy protocol, since the cost depends on the drugs used and how long treatment runs, but the closest published NZ figure for cancer surgery is tumour resection at The Referral Centre in Waikato: $3,500 for a simple removal, $5,000 for a complex one, both including overnight care (The Referral Centre, surgery estimate guide, retrieved 17 September 2026).
What NZ clinics actually publish
McMaster and Heap Veterinary Practice in Christchurch, one of the few NZ clinics with a public client handout on the subject, states plainly: "The cost of chemotherapy depends on the protocol that has been recommended... It can vary significantly depending on the length of the protocol and the drugs used" (Chemotherapy in Animals, retrieved 17 September 2026). The same handout notes that human-style radiotherapy is rarely an option here: "the lack of availability and cost in New Zealand is often prohibitive." Protocols are given daily, weekly, monthly, or every two to four weeks depending on the drug and cancer type, with a blood test before each dose (same source).
